In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Chalmette High School was a literal lifeboat for its community, with the second floor providing a refuge while the first floor flooded with eight feet of water. Almost a decade later, the school has been renovated and extended to accommodate and protect its students, thanks in part due to our green BriteWay canopy with Pentaglas® panels. The new translucent canopy was designed to connect the two buildings, and the unique curved shape of the structure was built with two sweeps to embody an owl with open wings as a reflection of the school’s mascot. The new space is now used to help with cafeteria overflow, and to host outdoor jazz concerts and other school events.
